Butler Aircraft Modelers Society is about the only club in the area to offer R/C flight training. If you are new to RC flying, we encourage and invite you to visit and participate in our discussion forum here.

If you are new to the wonderful world of flying radio controlled airplanes and would like to receive training in how to safely and properly operater an R/C airplane, we offer training session twice at week at our field.

If you would like to learn to fly, we offer our training sessions each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until dark during the months of May through September. If you have a trainer, bring it out and one of our qualified club instructors will help you learn how to fly it. If you don't own a trainer plane yet, we have planes available for you to use for a short period of time until you purchase your own plane.

Training typically averages about 15 weeks. This time may be longer or shorter depending on your learning curve. We find that those who have access to and utilize one of the many excellent r/c flight simulators can solo in a shorter time frame.

For those of you who are interested in learning to fly helicopter's, we have an instructor who can make his copter do things that you would not believe. Due to his hectic schedule, helicopter training will be scheduled around his free time. We encourage anyone interested in learning to fly heli's to visit the RC Helicopter section of our forum. You can find a direct link here.

Upon completition of your flight training, you will be required to pass a basic skills test. This test is to demonstrate that you have aquired the necessary basics of r/c airplane/helicopter flying. Until you have passed this test and received your second class wings, you will be required to fly under the supervision of a flight instructor. To learn more about this basic flying skills test, click here.

So, if you're interested in learing to fly an r/c airplane, come on out and join us on training nights. If you can't make it out for regular training nights, an instructor is available on Saturday mornings by appointment only.

Our Club Trainers:
Tuesday:        Roy Scott and Jeff Bon

Thursday:       Jerry Rudish and Ron Hemphill

Helicopters:   Todd Wuchevich (click here for days & times)
