July
Happenings & News For those who do not already know, the annual Yard Sale that was held in June proved to be another successful fund raiser for the club. Also in June was our First Annual Fun-Fly which was deemed to be a success. The Fun-Fly was another fund raiser for the club. Our first time out the club raised over $300 in concession sales, another $200 or so from the raffle of the ARF Trainer and just a hair over $100 from the 50/50. Tom Fisher, club Treasurer, announced at the July club meeting that our bank account was now over $2,100 thanks to the success of the Yard Sale and Fun-Fly. From the proceeds of this year's fund raisers, the club has decided to purchase additional new picnic tables and is looking into replacing our gas bar-b-que grill. Roy Scott announced to the club that Ron Hemphill and Scott Rudish have agreed to be the clubs Safety Officer and Field Marshall. Their responsibilities are to insure that all flyers fly and operate in a safe manner in accordance with club and AMA safety rules. So, expect to see and hear from one of these guys the next time you're flying crazy. Also during July, a new source for hats, shirts and jackets is being looked into. It seems that we had some problems with the person that was supplying the club with these items and it was decided that a new and less expensive source should and could be found. For those of you who have placed orders, your patience is appreciated while the club tried to find the best deal possible for you.
August Happenings & News Roy Scott also reminded members that the annual Glider event was coming up on August 26th and if anyone is available to come up to the field and help out, it would be appreciated. Roy also reminded members that elections for President and Secretary/Treasurer are coming up in September. At this time, current Vice-President, Bob Costello announced that he would not be renewing his membership next year with the club so a he gave Roy and the members present the "head-up" that the club will also need a new Vice-President. So, if anyone is interested in holding an office, plan on being at the next meeting and throw your hat into the race. Also discussed at this meeting is the new requirement that all members must now display their AMA membership card when flying at the field. Empty name badges were made available at this meeting for members to pick up that can clip to a hat, shirt, pants, etc. so that the club will be able to determine who is an AMA member from those who are not. It was also decided that the membership card can also be displayed on your field box as well.
A Couple of Reminders As a reminder, you can still get those 5 points, but time is running out. Don't for get that we have the Gliders coming up on August 26th. and if you have some free time, your help would be greatly appreciated. Also, our next regularly scheduled club meeting will be on September 4th. The meeting will begin at 2:30 pm. Ath this meeting we will be nominating new officers for the club. The picnic is scheduled to begin at about 4:00 pm.
The new mowing schedule changes for the 2006 flying season are posted to the Mowing Schedule page of our website. You can also review the 2006 AMA Safety Rules here.
