OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE BUTLER AIRCRAFT
MODELERS SOCIETY

Volume 34      September/October, 2006

From The Editor:
When I assumed the responsibility of being Editor of the Windsock, it was my intention that the newsletter would be published within the first week of each month. It was further my intention that our newsletter would contain useful information regarding the club. For the past few months I have not done this. There are extenuating circumstances that I won't go into here, but I will extend my apologies to the BAMS for not keeping up with my responsibilities as Editor of your newsletter.

Beginning with this issue, I am going to once again do everything possible to make sure that the Windsock is published in a timely manner and within the first week of each month. I would also like to extend an invitation to any of the club members who would like to contribute to the Windsock to feel free to contact me. I would welcome any and all contributions.

The Latest Happenings & News
We had our regular monthly meeting on October 8th with a turn out of 15 members. Because Club Treasurer, Tom Fisher, was unable to attend this meeting and present the monthly financial, Club President Roy Scott informed the members present that to the best of his knowledge the club has approximately $1,500 in the bank. Roy also informed the membership that the Hitec Optic radio system that is to be raffled will not be raffled until the Memorial Day 07 meeting. This decision to postpone the raffle is in an attempt to sell enough tickets to at least break even on what the radio system cost the club to buy.

Roy informed the members that the hat and shirt situation has finally been resolved. If you are interested in ordering a hat, shirt or jacket with the club's new logo, please contact Jerry Rudish. Roy also stated that while only approximately 8 members showed up to participate in the last work day that was held on Saturday, October 7th.these few members got a lot of work accomplished. During this work day, a new brick walkway was added from the parking lot to the pavilion area. The new picnic tables were painted. the grass area around the pavilion area received some lime and weed and feed and about one-half of the stolen soffit was replaced with vinyl soffit (cost of the replacement soffit was approximately $173). Members are reminded that the final work day/field closing will be held on October 28th. and those members who have not yet gotten the required 5 points are urged to take advantage of this last shot at getting your points. We will need all the help we can get. The primary task of the day will be to get lime on the field.

For the last of the Old Business, Bob Masterson extended thanks to John Cuzzo for the fine job done in hosting the 17 or so cub scouts who came out the field again this year to learn about r/c flying. Thanks also go out to Warren Peffer, Bob Master and Jerry and Scott Rudish who discussed the various aspects of flying and gave each of the scouts the opportunity to actually fly on a buddy box. Thanks also go out to Carmen Van Patten who made sure that all of the scouts and their parents got plenty of hot dogs and baked beans so that the guys could concentrate on making sure the kids had a good time.

Under new business was the election of club President and Treasurer. In light of the fact that no one else was willing to step up and assume the responsibility of leadership of the club, Roy Scott agreed to continue on as President for another 2-year term. Doug Snyder was nominated and ultimately elected as the club's new Treasurer. The club now has a full board of five members. Be sure to congratulate your elected Board Members for stepping up and helping to guide the BAMS in the coming years to becoming an even better club than it has been in the past.

A Couple of Reminders
As the absolute final reminder, the club instituted a new points system to encourage members to take a more active interest in the club. To date, many members have far exceeded the required 5 points for the year. There are still members who have accumulated 0 points for the year. Since there is still some time to accumulate the 5 points, those members who have not yet done so are encouraged to make the most of what is left of the flying season to get your points. In the event that a member elects not to accumulate the required 5 points for the season, as per the club's by-laws, member will see an increase in dues to the tune of $160 to renew next year.

You can still get those 5 points, but time is running out.

All members are reminded of the new requirement that all members must now display their AMA membership card when flying at the field. Empty name badges are available, while supplies last, for members to pick up that can be clipped to a hat, shirt, pants, etc. Due to a couple of minor instances this past flying season, the Board of Directors have decided to implement this so that we are can determine who is an AMA member from those who are not. Your membership card can also be displayed on your field box as well.

The Board of Directors is expected to begin working on a Mowing Schedule and Calendar of Events for the 2007 flying season before the end of the year. Once these are put together, they will be published to the the website. If you have a preference for working with someone in particular or on certain days, please contact one of the Board members so that they can try to accommodate you. The earlier the better.
