FIRST GENERAL MEETING OF 2008 The First General Meeting of 2008 for the BAMS was held Sunday, February 3rd at the home of Tom and Sue Mekis. Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to Tom and Sue for once again opening their home to the club to start our year off. If you atteneded, CONGRATULATIONS you earned a 1/2 point towards your 5 point total for the year. Attending meetings is an easy way to garner points so be sure to come to as many meetings as possible!
MORE NEWS ON THE SECURITY CAMERAS Dave Chisholm reported that the solar powered security cameras will be installed shortly on the main building. The cameras have infrared capabilty, 7 to 10 day capture and will be housed in vandal resistant housings. Included is a DVD recorder so that if vandalism should occur, a disk can be burned for the State Police. Hopefully this will cut down on the vandalism at the field - Thanks to Dave for stepping up and offering this benefit to the Club and field. NEWS ABOUT THE JOHN DEERE Warren Peffer took care of the seasonal tractor maintenance and reported that this year the tractor was in better condition this year compared to last year. Good work by the members will help keep this asset in good working order. Along with making sure their is gas at the field for the tractor, EVERYONE NEEDS TO CHECK THE OIL BEFORE MOWING. There were a couple incidents last year where a team had found the tractor nearly out of oil before mowing. To paraphrase an old saying "An Ounce of Prevention is Worth SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS Worth of Cure!"
NOISE NEWS - LARGE SCALE PLANES Like any responsible AMA Club, the BAMS need to be sensitive to our landlords requests as well as remain good neighbors with those living near the field. Last season we had a couple incidents that upset our Landlord Gene Waite and cause someone to spray paint our main building with "Quiet Down!" In response to this, it was decided that the gas powered, giant scale aircraft would be required to muffle their engines and be restricted to flying after 3 PM. The pilot that upset Gene has decided that he will not return to the field as he felt the restrictions would adversely affect his ability to fly at the levels he is use to. This solves on of the issues we had. During our first General Meeting, John Pensy questioned the moritorium to restrict gas powered aircraft to flying after 3 pm. He said he would have to report this to the AMA as part of the Sanctioning requirement for the Fun Fly. He felt that this would adversely affect the turnout at the field for the Fun Fly. He also noted that he has flow gas powered aircraft for a number of years without any complaints from the neighbors. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to rescind the 3 pm flying restriction as long as aircraft meet the AMA and Field requirement for dB noise levels. As a general rule all aircraft at the field should be below 103 dB. Club President, Roy Scott will work with Scott Rudish (Field Marshall) to research the exact standards and require all aircraft to be checked. Dave Chisholm said he would be happy to assist anyone needing to quiet a plane whether thru tweaking their muffler or by propeller choice. FIRST FIELD WORKDAY Mark your calendars - the first workday has been schedule for April 19th. It's a great opportunity to earn points and help care for our great field, MEMBER ROSTER A new member roster will be posted under the Members Only section. If you do not see your name on the roster, it means that our Treasurer Doug Snyder (201 East Metzger Avenue, Butler, PA 16001) has not received your dues renewal payment. If you earned your 5 points during the 2007 Season, your late dues payment is now $50.00. If you want to remain current with the club, please send your dues payment in now.
