Club Meeting

The club had it's first official meeting of the 2006 flying season. On behalf of the club, a special Thank You goes out to Tom and Sue Mekis for graciously opening their home to us for this meeting.

Of the 23 members in attendance, there were several new faces and everyone made sure that they got their 1/2 point for being their.

During this meeting, Scott Rudish volunteered to be the club's new Safety Officer and Ron Hemphill is now our Field Marshall. So, if you happen to bend the safety rules while flying at the field, one or both of these guys will be sending the gorilla's to visit you and make sure that we maintain a very safe flying environment.

Also during the meeting, everyone was reminded of the Stryker electric plane that is to be raffled off during the Memorial Day picnic. President Roy also reminded everyone of the first official work day of 2006 - which is April 15th and it looks like we might be doing some weed and feed during that work day. Also, it looks like the pit area is going to be expanded a bit and new airplane restraints are being made to accomodate this expansion.

President Roy also went on to remind everyone of the Runway Dinner set for April 22nd  as well as the Yard Sale slated for June 3rd. Start cleaning out your closets so we have lots of goodies to sell. This is the big money maker of the year and we'll need plenty of help. We will also be needing lots of help for the Annual Glider Event on August 26th.

For those who are interested, ball caps are on order and will have the new club logo. As soon as they come in, they will be available for sale at the unbelievably low, low price of only $11.00 each. If you'd like to pre-order a new hat, see Jerry Rudish. You can also see Jerry to order shirts and jackets that will also sport the new club logo.

Lastly, plans for our First Annual Fly-In are starting to come together. We expect to have a couple of radio controlled hot air ballons, maybe a full-scale ballon or two as well. We are slated to have some excellent helicopter 3D flight demonstrations with fun for everyone who participates and/or attends. Again, we will be needing lots of help to make this a sucessful event. Obie King has volunteered to coordinate the concessions so if anyone, and wives are welcomed, would like to help out with the food, please let Obie know as soon as possible.

What's New

In response to requests from members, a new Member Projects section has been added to the website. If you are building or have built a new plane, send some pictures in along with a brief description about it and you can have your new project included in this new section. In the mean time, check out this new section to see what club members are or have been working on this winter.

A Couple of Reminders
If you haven't renewed, now is the time. Dues for 2006 can be sent to Thomas Fisher, 612 Center Drive, Chicora, PA 16025. Checks should be made out to Butler Aircraft Modelers. Open Family membership is now $50.00 for the year which includes a $10 late penalty now being assessed for all dues not paid yet.

Also, since we are now officially into the year 2006, members will want to keep in mind that the club is now utilizing the new Points System (see here for more details) to try and encourage more member participation in club events. If you want to keep your annual dues low, then you'll want to make sure you accumulate the huge amount of points (a whopping total of 5 points for the year) before the end of the flying season.

There have been some changes made to the Events page. You'll want to keep a watch on this page for all the up-coming club happenings.

The new mowing schedule for the 2006 flying season is also posted to the Mowing Schedule page of our website. You can also review the 2006 AMA Safety Rules here.

Finally, the next club meeting is scheduled for April 2nd at the field and the starting time will be 2:30 p.m. as usual.
